This term, we’ve been exploring nonsense verses. The children delved into what they are and then created their own in pairs. They loved performing these to the class.
In our sizzle lessons, we've been focusing on BOYS and double ly sentences to boost our writing skills. The children have enjoyed crafting their own sentences and then peer marking their friends' work, finding ways to improve them.
We looked at writing a recount. The children discussed the events we enjoyed during our VE Day celebrations and noted these down to use for our recount. We explored the concept of 'What Makes This Good?' (WMTG) and the children decided that using paragraphs, time adverbials, and aiming for a BOYS sentence would really enhance their writing.
The following day, the children got to work on their recounts. They worked hard, ensuring they included all the relevant information. It was great to see their enthusiasm and creativity shine through! Afterwards, we self and peer assessed their work, providing feedback on how to make it even better.
To start our topic off we introduced this book, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. It sparked lots of questioning and discussion throughout.
The children looked at how to write a story plan to write a similar story. We discussed what makes a good story - the setting, characters, problems and resolutions and how to open and end a story.
We also looked at the book Mother Earth is Weeping as this showed us why we need to look after our environment. We enjoyed reading this story.
We worked in partners to think of a setting and characters. We asked our partners for support when wrting our story plans.
We also had to think of a problem and resolution that had to do with waste.
During our literacy lessons, we’ve been describing our story settings with a variety of sentences. We discussed what we explored in Sizzle and used our knowledge to craft fantastic descriptions—both when the setting is perfect and when it’s littered. After that, we dived into Adobe Generate to create some stunning AI images. It was amazing to see how our descriptions truly came alive!
We created a WMTG? so we knew what we needed to include in our story. We also used our story plans to help us create our fantastic stories.
we looked at the features of a newspaper so we knew what we needed to include in our newspaper.
We also labelled the different parts of a newspaper. We did this in partners.
The children wrote our reports following our school trip to Folly Farm. They came up with a newspaper title, headline, sub headings, and pictures. The children worked in groups and are very proud of our reports.
After our school trip, we played ping pong with our partners. First, we shared what we did and saw at folly Farm, then we talked about our favourite parts. Finally, we recorded our thoughts on Seesaw.
Beth Sy'n Bod?
The children used the dictionaries to find words they couldn't spell.
They wrote their conversations using a word bank.
They enjoyed reading their conversations to their partners.
The children asked each other the question, “Oes __ gyda ti?” as they explored the classroom. Some friends inquired about each other's hair colour, while others asked about their eye colour.
It was lovely to hear them practising their Welsh and using it throughout the lesson!
We designed a fitness course and used stopwatches to time our exercises....we recorded our results in a table.
We decided to link our health and well-being topic to create a Health Shop and a Sports Shop. The children were given different amounts of money and were required to complete a shopping list. They then needed to work out the change they would be given and also had various money challenges when they had completed the task.
After discussing how different counties recycle differently, we researched the recycling rates in the countries of the UK during our maths lesson. We recorded this information in a table and then created a graph to show our findings. Finally, we answered questions about the graph to check our understanding. The next part of our lesson was to research the counties in Wales and their recycling efforts.
We went on Google sheets to record our finding in a table. We had to write the headings and input the correct data into the correct columns. We worked in partners to support each other.
Dosbarth Coch had a brilliant time designing and making their own maths games for the younger pupils. They then took them to the Year 1/2 class and everyone had a fun morning playing together!
