Our book this term is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Every day, the children eagerly gather around to read a new chapter of their book. They love to guess what might happen next! During their discussions, they talk about the characters and share their thoughts about the places described in the story. One child imagines what it would be like to explore the Buckets house, while another wonders how the factory would look at night. This chapter book sparks their imaginations.
This half term, our genre is descriptive writing! The children have already had a wonderful time exploring the chocolate room, where they've used adjectives, paired sentences, and similes we've practised in our sizzle lessons. After that, they let their imaginations run wild by inventing a brand-new room in the factory!
The children had a blast inventing their own chocolate bars! They designed eye-catching packaging and cleverly came up with creative names that really popped. After that, they wrote fun descriptions to sell their tasty treats. For instance, one named "Choco Delight" was described as a heavenly mix of smooth caramel and crunchy nuts, promising a flavour explosion with every bite. Excited about their creations, we sent their wonderful ideas over to Cadbury's World. Who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll see their chocolate bars on shelves, loved by everyone!
We had an exciting email back from Cadbury World! The children were absolutely thrilled to hear their reply and were over the moon that they liked their designs. It was fascinating to learn how long it takes to create new chocolate bars. A big thank you to Cadbury World for taking the time to reply!
The children have been eager to make a recipe, so we decided to make pizzas inspired by Italy. The children used their knowledge of imperative verbs from our sizzle sessions and time adverbials to create a recipe.
We've been having a great time looking at imperative verbs in our sizzle lessons, which has provided a fantastic opportunity to incorporate recipes from around the world. The children have got really creative, crafting dishes from various countries for our class recipe book.
We've been looking at persuasive writing this term! The children explored the features and then researched Welsh foods. They crafted some fantastic arguments about why Welsh cuisine is the best. I'm so impressed with their creativity and persuasive skills—truly great writing all around!
In Welsh and French lessons, the children have been exploring food. They've learned to express what they like and dislike, which is fantastic! In our Welsh lesson, they created their own menus with the help of Welsh dictionaries. They really enjoyed learning how to say each food item in both languages.
The children created a class book on slides explaining where they live. They were ale to say the type of house they live in, who they live with the and the street.
They enjoyed writing the sentence pattern and then sharing where they live with their class friends.
The children really enjoy our Helpwr Heddiw sessions – we ask questions, read Welsh books, sing songs, and play games daily. These activities help develop their Welsh. Their favourite games are Zap, Stepping Stones, and Bingo!
After half term, we focused on comparing Wales with the other countries we’d learned about. We explored what makes us proud to be Welsh and discovered all that Wales has to offer. For our Eisteddfod, we crafted recipes that captured our feelings about being Welsh and living in this beautiful land. It was a lovely way to celebrate our heritage and community!
The children have been learning about different foods and where they come from. They created tally charts and graphs to show their findings. We also learnt about different diets and created venn diagrams to show what we learnt.
Not only did we cook pizza and cut it into fractions......we learnt about shading fractions, writing fractions, explored improper fractions and also converted them into mixed numbers.
This week we've started learning about weight and mass.
