We explored the types of food our bodies need to stay healthy. Using the Eatwell Plate, we sorted different foods into their groups and thought of it like a jigsaw puzzle, realising that a healthy diet includes a little bit from each food group. After our discussion, we created our own healthy meal plates and labelled them to show what makes a balanced diet.
We had a thoughtful class discussion about exercise and explored the many ways we can keep our bodies fit and healthy. The children shared some fantastic ideas, suggesting a wide range of exercises they enjoy. Together, we talked about why regular exercise is important. The children then identified four different ways they stay active and take care of their bodies through exercise.
What Makes a Kind Friend?
We had a class discussion about what it means to be a kind friend. Everyone shared their ideas, and we listened carefully to each other’s thoughts.
Next, we worked in talking partners to practise using kind words and phrases that help others feel happy. We thought about how our words and actions can make a big difference in someone's day.
Together, we decided on five special qualities that make a great friend, like being helpful, a good listener, sharing, showing respect, and including others. Then we helped Tricky Witch, who was feeling a bit confused about friendship, by creating a magical 'Friendship Potion' using these five ingredients.
Learning About Medicine and Staying Safe
We began our lesson with a discussion around an important question: What is medicine? The children shared ideas about how medicine can help us feel better when we’re unwell.
Next, we talked about times when people might need medicine and who is allowed to give it to us. This led to an important conversation about safety and how to be responsible around medicine.
We explored a range of everyday items and worked in groups to sort them into two categories: safe and unsafe. The children used great reasoning and gave sensible explanations for their choices.
To finish, we created colourful safety posters to teach others how to stay safe around medicine. The children showed excellent understanding and took the task seriously, demonstrating how important it is to be safe, responsible, and aware.
We began by working in groups to draw around our bodies and label the different body parts. This activity led to a thoughtful discussion about how to keep ourselves safe. As part of our learning, we were introduced to the NSPCC’s pantosaurus song, which helped us understand personal safety in a fun and memorable way.
We were fortunate to be invited by the playground leaders in Years 2 to 6, who taught us lots of exciting new playground games. We really enjoyed learning from them and later had fun sharing those games with the younger children during our playtimes.
