Mrs Scott helped with an assembly explaining children's rights. In class, we then looked at the NSPCC PowerPoint 'Speak Out, Stay Safe' and created our own posters. We really enjoyed sharing them with the class and discussing what we learned together!
We had a fantastic day at Bryngarw, exploring alongside our ranger! We hunted for minibeasts, discovered different types of trees, fed the ducks, and enjoyed the park. It was a brilliant school trip!
To celebrate Diwali we researched what it means and created our own art work.
We made Rangoli patterns out of natural materials and looked at symmetry to create our own patterns.
Our class book is The Hodgeheg. The children enjoyed exploring this engaging narrative and making predictions about the story. They made thoughtful comparisons between the park and the garden, discussing which setting they would prefer to visit and the reasons behind their choices.
In our Sizzle sessions, we have been focusing on the use of adjectives, 2A, 2 Pair sentences, and BOYS sentences. The children have had the opportunity to create sentences about hedgehogs, enhancing their writing skills.
After reading about the Hodgeheg, we decided to find out more about hedgehogs.
We created a fact sheet about hedgehogs and then shared our findings with the class.
After discussing what they wanted to discover in our topic, animals scored highly on the list. They expressed a keen interest in woodland animals, so we decided to create our own fact files. Each child shared their work with the class, discussing what they had learnt.
Following this, the children formed groups to create presentations about specific woodland animals. They designed slides and practised their presentations before sharing them with the class and other classes.
We enjoyed learning about different woodland animals.
In our sizzle sessions, we explored similes, adjectives, and two pair sentences. We decided to write about a mountain and were really pleased with how well they turned out!
During the first half of the term, we focused on “Sut Mae'r Tywydd?” alongside other sentence patterns in our helper heddiw sessions. Before we moved on to a new Welsh question, we did some writing. The children really enjoyed sharing their knowledge by describing the weather, and some even challenged themselves to talk about the weather in the past and present. They had a lot of fun using the Welsh dictionaries to explore all the different types of weather!
During the second part of the first half of the term, we focused on “Ble rwyt ti'n byw?” alongside other sentence patterns in our helper heddiw sessions.
We took our learning outdoors and measured items in our nature area. Using the vocabulary from our maths lessons, we supported each other with measuring.
It was great fun estimating and measuring everything around us!
We looked into co-ordinates by first identifying locations and reading a map. We then explored a map of Wales, plotting various places along the way.
We really enjoyed discovering where certain areas like mountains, rivers, and coastal regions are located.
Our natural world is diverse and dynamic, influenced by processes and human actions.
To start our topic, we explored the meanings of the words 'diverse' and 'dynamic.' The children then located Wales on a map, prompting a discussion around the country's significant landmarks. They looked the various geographical features, including the coastlines, mountains, valleys, and rivers.
The children identified that Wales encompasses all of these elements within its borders.
They enjoyed researching the different landmarks and plotting them on the map of Wales, enhancing their understanding of the country.
We went on a nature hunt exploring what we have in our school grounds. This inspired us to create our own nature hunt for the younger pupils to enjoy!
We had a great time making our own leaf identification wheel! After that, we headed outdoors to hunt for leaves, using our wheels to identify them and describe their texture, colour, and edges. It was such a fun activity!
After our leaf identification lesson, we went outdoors to find six different leaves. Using what we learned, we figured out their names and recorded our findings on Seesaw.
In class, we explored the question, "What is biodiversity?" We shared our ideas and then watched a YouTube video about it. After that, we completed some tasks that helped us see how we can support our environment.
We also taught another Year 4 class the meanings of habitat, biodiversity, endangered, and extinct.
As a fun challenge, we asked our parents if they knew what biodiversity is, and if they didn’t, we had to teach them!
In our topic lessons, we've been looking at our natural physical features. The children were organised into four groups, each tasked with researching a different feature: mountains, rivers, coastlines, or woodlands.
We teamed up with the other Year 4 class to create a website all about animal groups—mammals, amphibians, fish, reptiles, and birds. We worked hard and presented our sites to each other, following a WMTG to guide what needed to be included!
We’ve learnt loads of different shapes, ways of travelling, and a variety of jumps including using our balancing skills to move. Using the school's apparatus which include the benches and ropes, we’ve really been able to show off our moves. We particularly enjoyed working in groups to create a sequence of movements for our routines.
We’ve been looking at Andy Goldsworthy’s artwork! The children created fact files about the artist and discovered that he makes his art using natural materials. They then v went outdoors in to our nature area to gather their own materials and make their own piece of art. It was great to see such great teamwork showing off their artistic skills.
We created some fantastic artwork by following instructions and creating our own leaf drawings. We enjoyed using different art materials and shading the chalks to create colours.
We created beautiful rangoli patterns for Diwali using natural materials, showcasing excellent teamwork as we sourced the materials and designed our patterns together
