How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow!
We drew storymaps to retell the story of how the crayons saved the rainbow.
Colour Mixing
We learned how to make all the colours of the rainbow by mixing two colours together.
We mixed the primary colours of red, blue and yellow to make orange, purple and green.
What makes us happy?
We discussed our feelings and what makes us happy. We then drew a picture and wrote about our feelings.
The Colour Monster
We listened to the story of The Colour Monster. We then discussed the different feelings and emotions and how they linked to the colour monsters. Our favourite colour monster was pink, the feeling of being loved!
The Worrysaurus
The Worrysaurus was a little dinosaur who set off on an adventure for the day. He took his tin of favourite things, food, drink and his teddy. Along the way the weather changed and the Worrysaurus began to worry. Luckily he had his 'happy tin' with him to think of positive things
We then wrote a list of our own things that we would carry in our very own 'happy tin'.
The Rainbow Fish
The Rainbow Fish wouldn't share one of his colourful, sparkling scales with the little blue fish. The little blue fish was very sad and upset about this and told the other fish in the ocean. After discussing this with the octopus, the Rainbow Fish decided to give just one of his colourful scales to the little blue fish. He had a peculiar feeling after this and then gave away all his scales apart from one!
We discussed the qualities of what makes a good friend and made a list of them. Our favourite was 'sharing is caring'
We listened to the story 'At the End of the Rainbow'. A lovely story about a badger and a fox who were looking for the treasure at the end of the rainbow. Sadly the rainbow disappeared but they both realised they had found their own treasure in the friendship they had between them.
We thought about when and why rainbows appear in the sky.
We know we need the sun and the rain at the same time to make a rainbow but how does it happen?
We carried out an experiment. We placed a transparent cup of water on our windowsill. The sun was shining outside. Then the sun's rays shone through the cup of water creating a rainbow on our class floor. Magic!
Sunlight is white light, which is a mixture of all visible colours. As sunlight passes through the water droplets, it is bent and splits into the colours of the rainbow.
We picked an autumn leaf from the nature area and measured it from top to bottom using cubes.
This leaf is 6 cubes long
Sorting the rainbow bears
The children were encouraged to sort the bears into sets of their choice. They were then encouraged to explain their choice. Was it size, colour or family sets?
