We had a Harvest festival where we came together to celebrate Harvest. As a school we gave food donations to our local foodbank. In class we talked about what we are thankful for.
On European Languages Day, Miss Griffiths' class celebrated Greece! The children learnt how to say greetings in Greek, explored the Greek flag, and located Greece on the map. We also discovered that football is the country’s national sport. The children enjoyed tasting traditional Greek foods, including Greek salad, yogurt, and pita bread.
Miss Horrigan's class celebrated Italy! We made pizzas and created a giant Italian flag. We looked at famous landmarks such as the Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We found Italy on the map, and we learnt how to say hello and goodbye in Italian.
We read the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today? and talked about what we could do to fill our own bucket and other people's buckets. We had lots of lovely ideas, such as give someone a smile, help someone, share toys, be kind and tidy up our mess. We made kindness bracelets for our friends, and drew things that we knew would fill our buckets.
We read the story of Elmer and talked about how we are different but the same. Everyone is unique and it doesn't matter how we look, we treat everyone the same in a kind way.
On the day of our Halloween disco we wore costumes to school and took part in lots of spooktacular activities in class. We then danced the night away in the disco after school!
After our superhero dress up day we thought about what our superhero superpowers are. We used the green screen to take our photographs and wrote about our superpowers.
After that we studied our faces in the mirror and drew self portraits. We then listened to the story 'What's My Superpower?' by Aviiaq Johnson and talked about what our real life superpowers are.
We celebrated the Welsh language on Diwrnod Shwmae Su'mae by creating videos to show the sentence patterns we have been practising this term. Miss Horrigan's class have been practising "sut wyt ti?" through songs, and by making faces in the nature area to show how we feel.
We sorted for a variety of different reasons - size, shape, colour. We completed our challenge to sort items for our own reason and explain what we had done.
Hidden around the nature area were number cards. We had to find a card and find items in the area, e.g. leaves, sticks, stones, to make the amount shown on our card.
We explore making amounts by using the 10 frames. We picked a card and then found the right number of cubes and placed them on the ten frame to represent the number.
We were exploring 1 more and 1 less. To show what we knew we picked a number card and built a tower with that number of blocks. We then built another tower with 1 more, and a third tower with 1 less.
After comparing amounts we looked at greater than, less than and equal to and how to represent that using the correct symbols >,<,=.
We were looking at comparing amounts and using the vocabulary more than, fewer than and the same.
We started by building towers. We each had a different amound of blocks and had to build a tower using as many of the blocks as we wanted. Once we had build our towers we then compared them to see which tower was biggest and which tower was smallest.
Bigger than us!
Smaller than us!
We then compared different lengths looking for longer than and shorter than. Everyone had a piece of string and had to find someone with a piece longer than theirs and shorter than theirs.
We looked at identifying, copying and then creating patterns. We used items we found around the classroom to make a pattern.
We also created sound patterns using instruments.
Our natural world is diverse and dynamic, influenced by processes and human actions.
We explored our nature area with Mrs Priday identifying risks and hazards. We re-familiarised ourselves with the area and identified any changes to the area.
We started by finding out what is a material. We identified different materials and went on a material hunt around the school. We sorted different materials based on their properties.
Then we began our experiment. We tested four different materials to find out which ones were waterproof, strong, and moved the best. We then had to decide which material we thought would make the best cape for Captain Courage.
To start our topic, we held a Superhero Day! The children came to school dressed as their favourite superheroes and spent the day taking part in a variety of fun, superhero-themed activities.
We listened to the story The Family Book by Todd Parr, and talked about how everyone's families are different. We talked about our own families and we drew a picture of them.
We have been very fortunate to have had visits from some of our community superheroes to tell us about their jobs.
Our first community superhero was our very own Aunty Julie who spends every school day making sure we are safe when we cross the road. She told us about her job, and then we went outside where we practised what we had learnt - stop, look and listen. We took turns 'driving the cars' and being the crossing patrol person.
Paramedics Olivia and Kirsty from the Welsh Ambulance Service visited our school, bringing an ambulance for us to explore. We were able to go inside the ambulance and look at all of the equipment. We checked our heart rates, and we saw how the bed moved up and down. We also took part in a quiz at the end to see how much we remembered!
Hendrix's mum is a paediatric nurse who came to visit us to tell us all about her job, and what might happen if we ever had to go into hospital. She showed us how to use a thermometer to take our temperature, how to bandage a wound, what an oxygen mask is and what it is used for, and what protective equipment nurses wear, such as aprons and gloves.
Every Friday we have music sessions with Mr Evans where we learn to read music, count beats, and to listen and respond to different songs and pieces of music.
We used natural materials that we found on our Autumn treasure hunt to create Autumn pictures.
