"Anti" Social Media?
We had a great time tying to guess what our next topic would be and were delighted to discover it would center around Social Media and the advantages and disadvantages of using it. We came up with the title "Anti" Social Media?
Next we worked in groups to work out what we think is Social Media and wrote our thoughts on the tables with our whiteboard pens.
We used Google Slides to record the questions we have about our topic and cannot wait to find out the answers.
We discussed what a digital footprint was and what could possibly be added to our digital footprint. We drew around our foot and added any apps or websites inside that we have used thus far that will add to our digital footprint. We then created a digital version.
We created a digital footprint by hand and a digital version.
PC Lee came to talk to us about Safer Surfing which included lots of questions such as -
Do you have a friend on Social Media that you have never met?
Do you know the age limit of every Social Media site you use?
Have you ever or know of someone who has been bullied online?
Have you ever accessed a site you shouldn't have?
We had a great discussion as to what we think would make a better world. Lots of ideas were discussed and then we recorded our own personal beliefs in our books.
What is forgiveness? Why is it important? What can you and cannot forgive?
Would you be able to tell what has been altered in an image?? We looked at a variety of celebrities and their "before" and "after" pictures and were tasked with if we could identify what had been altered.
We then discussed, as a class, why people edit their photo's and what implications does celebrities editing their photo's, have on the young people in our society. This resulted in a discussion about negative body image.
As a class we completed an AI quiz. The children had to identify whether or not they believed the photo was AI or reality. This was very fun but also difficult.
Take the quiz here at:

After looking at altered and edited images, we wanted to trail and error how difficult photo editing was. We found out that actually, it's pretty simple to edit photos and it was very easy to access a free app to edit photos. We did not think this was a good thing but did have fun editing.
To keep ourselves safe online, it is important that we learn about the potential dangers . We had a real grown up discussion as a class and discussed some issues which some found uncomfortable, but understood the discussion and learning was necessary.
Using Adobe Express "Generative AI" we created 4 "perfect" people, chose our favourite "perfect" person and had a big discussion about the "pursuit of perfection" in beauty.
QUESTION - Does the "perfect person" exist?
Thea "No because everyone is unique, we are all perfect in our ways and if everyone looked the same it would be boring!"
Harper "No because it doesn't matter what you look like, we are all perfect."
Morgan W "No! The perfect person can't exist because no one is perfect in life!"
We used Adobe Express to create our own posters on how to stay safe online.
We were presented with a different number of scenarios about being online and had to give reasons as to why we agree or disagree.
Would you be able to spot fake news? Do you think you have read an article that has been fake but believed it? This is the task we were faced with!
