HAIKU POETRY
A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Often focusing on images from nature. For part of our English sessions this term we focussed on creating Haikus creating the landscape of Wales based on its surrounding nature.
Writing stories with a Welsh theme. Children created stories based in a welsh setting, with Welsh characters and at least three Welsh symbols of Wales. You can read some of them here.
Eisteddfod entries for our poems entitled, 'A Pocketful of Wales'.
Writing descriptions using quality vocabulary and a range of sentence strucutres.
We used the 8 points of a compass and used this to direct our peers to places of interest on a map of wales. We were able to locate places and give directions from one place to another. We had great fun doing this.
We collected data as a class in order to create a pictogram. We decided to collect data on the classes favourite fruit and their favourite Welsh symbol.
We ensured that the table and data was collected accurately. Using a key and graph paper, we created a pictogram!
We then used the skills we had learnt to create bar charts.
We used SALT to check that they were accurate:
S- Scale
A- Axis
L- Labels
T- Title
We can now ask questions and find information from charts!
