The Owl Babies
Following on from the story the children drew pictures of their own Owls and labelled their features. First we did some research as a class about nocturnal animals. The children sorted animals that were nocturnal and those that are not. The children also drew their own story maps trying to reacall the main parts of the story.
Measuring Height
Working in small groups the children decided who was the tallest and who was the shortest and put themselves in size order. They wrote in their books who the tallest was and what position they were in size.
Sorting
The children sorted animals that were nocturnal and those that were not.
Ordering
The children cut out pictures of the Owl babies and ordered them in size from smallest to largest.

The children have been out bird watching daily. They are making tally charts of the different types of birds that they have seen.
Cutting out snowflakes
The children cut out their own snowflakes. We looked at the symmetrical patterns that they made.
Measuring height
The children worked in small groups to measure their height. They put themselves in size order helping each other out. They identified who the tallest and shortest were in the group.
