This term, our book is "Dr Ranj's Superheroes." We have been discussing the different superheroes in the story and talking about why they are called superheroes. Superheroes are special because they help others and make the world a better place. For example, a superhero doctor saves lives by healing people when they are sick. A superhero firefighter bravely puts out fires to keep everyone safe. Each profession has important qualities, like bravery and kindness. We also talked about words to describe these jobs. Words like "courageous," "helpful," and "dedicated" show how special these superheroes are. Let’s remember that everyone can be a superhero in their own way by helping friends and family every day!
In our first literacy lesson, we concentrated on sentence level work in our Sizzle session and how we can improve our sentences. The children wrote sentences about a different emergency service. For example, Olivia wrote, “The police help people.” Then, they used green pens to improve their sentences by adding exciting adjectives. Jack changed his sentence to, “The brave police help scared people.” The children then shared their improved sentences with the class, and everyone listened carefully. This activity helped us understand how a few simple words can make our writing more interesting and fun!
This term, our genre focus is all about letter writing! We've been looking at the key features that make a letter effective, and we even created a plan to help with our writing. During our sizzle sessions, the children have started to think about how they can capture the reader's attention with some creative sentences.
We discussed who we’re going to write to and why our letter is important. The children decided who they wanted to invite into our school. We focused on the features we’ve learned in previous lessons, like using a friendly greeting, paragraphs, clearly stating our purpose, and including some personal touches to make the letter special. It was fantastic to see their creativity shine through as they brainstormed ideas about what to say and how to make their invitation inviting.
We wrote our letters using all the features we had learned in previous lessons. The children were excited to read their letters to the class. It was lovely to see their creativity shine through, and they couldn't wait to send them off! Hopefully we get a reply soon!
We discussed how to write a good question. What do we need? First, we should think about what we really want to know. Next, we need to make our questions clear and easy to understand.
The children shared their ideas about our open afternoon, and discussed what they would like to find out.
The children were given a written paragraph which lacked the 'WMTG?' criteria. They were asked to create their own key, identify the areas to improve and make suggestions and next steps for the learning. They enjoyed being mini teachers!
The children were given a paragraph and were asked to continue the writing.
The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the life of Florence Nightingale. They created a timeline highlighting significant events throughout her life. Following this, they composed detailed descriptions of her contributions, ensuring clarity by using paragraphs and maintaining chronological order.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed continuing learning theWelsh language while also engaging with French during our French Fridays. This term, we have focused on topics in Welsh, including the weather, age, birthdays, and clothing. In French, we have explored greetings, colours, and numbers. Additionally, they particularly enjoy our Helpwr Heddiw sessions, where we incorporate interactive games such as Bingo, Zap, and Splat. These activities not only reinforce their language skills but also make the learning experience enjoyable and engaging.
We've been exploring clothes in Welsh, and the children had a go at writing down what they were wearing. As a fun challenge, they also added the colour of their outfits. Then, they read each other's work and checked if they were wearing what they'd written!
This term, we're focusing on crafting creative story starters to make our tales more interesting. The children have absolutely loved exploring different types of starters, sparking their imaginations and inspiring them to dive into their own unique adventures.
We've had a great time learning about different story starters! This plan will guide us in crafting our own tales, using those exciting beginnings. Let's get creative and see where our imaginations can take us!
We're writing a story about Christmas with our family members! The children will take these home as special Christmas gifts. We also assessed each other's work, sharing what we liked and offering ideas for improvement.
