V.E.Day 80 years celebration

The whole school celebrated 80 years since Victory in Europe by having a picnic on the field. We completed lots of activities in class to make sure we knew why this was such an important occasion to be marked. 'Lest not forget.'

VE Day: What is it, when is it and why do we remember?VE Day - or Victory in Europe Day - marks the day when fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end on 8 May 1945.

We took part in an Adobe Express live lesson with Dom, who taught us how to create a Union Jack Flag with images immersed throughout. We found it challenging but were impressed with the effects. We showed resilience and perseverance, collaborating for support. We also produced non-chronological reports and completed a double-page spread about V.E. Day using the computers to research key facts and information. Examples of which are shown below.

Mental Health Week 12th May

We asked the children the question, 'Is it important to be happy?' We then asked them, 'Can we always be happy?' We recorded the pupils' responses to the questions and then explored the different emotions we all experience. Dosbarth Du produced leaflets exploring the different emotions and gave advice of what to do when they feel angry, embarrassed or sad and strategies to use to help them. Dosbarth Gwyrdd looked at different ways to look after your mental health and produced leaflets exploring the different strategies and techniques to support them. They also recorded the different techniques to offer support to others. You can watch their video below.

Anti - Bullying Ambassadors

We have been working with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Community Safety Team. We have been involved in an Anti-Bullying project where we have looked at reducing bullying in schools. The Community Safety Team have created an anti-bullying ambassador programme for Year 4, who have been educated around bullying and how to be “anti-bullying buddies”. As part of this programme, they have created posters to display around school and written play scripts about what bullying is, what to do if someone’s being bullied and how to be kinder, etc.

In order to spread awareness and inspire all of our students to "Be a Buddy, Not a Bully," they have also taken the time to share them with students in the school. The Safety Team's Shaia and Ginny have expressed their admiration for the work done as well as the attitude, behaviour and conduct of our Year 4 cohort. They have been a pleasure to collaborate with, and they will now be used as a model by the authority to spread the word about anti-bullying ambassadors and how they can lessen bullying in our RCT schools.

All children were presented with a Certificate of Achievement.

We loved the opportunity to join in with singing with a real rock band! Arlo on keyboard, George on electric guitar, Pippa on drums and Fflur lead vocal! We Will, We Will, Rock You!!

Do you know children start thinking about what job they want when they are older when they are just 7 years old? There are over 1,000 different job types in the U.K. We asked Mr Hughes if we could host a Dream Big Day at school where all children dressed up as their future career choice. We had astronauts, designers, influencers, police officers, dancers, vets and many more!!

FOLLY FARM: END OF YEAR TRIP

WE HAD THE MOST AMAZING TIME AT FOLLY FARM, SEEING THE ANIMALS AND PLAYING IN THE DIFFERENT ADVENTURE ZONES. WE ENJOYED THE LAND TRAIN WHICH TOOK US AROUND THE FARMYARD. WE HAD GREAT FUN ESTIMATING THE HEIGHT AND WEIGHT OF THE ANIMALS TOO.
