Spring Term 2026
Curiosity:What Is Your Question?
Curiosity:What Is Your Question?
We started the term by introducing fables. The children really enjoyed listening to a range of traditional fables and discussing what happened in each story. They were particularly engaged in identifying the moral, sharing thoughtful ideas about the messages and lessons the characters learned. This helped pupils understand that stories can teach us important values as well as entertain us.
The children planned their fable witha partner for support. They looked at the setting, characters and what lesson was going to be taught.
The childen used the WMTG? grid to help them write their own fable. Their p[eers read their fables and had to tell them what the moral of their fable was.
Our class book this half term is 'The Fart That Saved the Universe.' We introduced the text by sharing only the title with the children and asking them to imagine what the story might be about. The children then designed their own front covers, using the title to inspire their ideas about characters, setting and mood.
The class were very excited when I introduced our new class book. I didn’t show them the front cover and only told them the title, which they all found hysterical. They then created their own front covers based on what they thought it might look like. We had lots of discussion, and I was really impressed with their ideas.
We created our own stories based on the book The Fart That Saved the Universe. We wrote a WMTG (What Makes This Good?) to ensure we knew what to include in our stories and used this as a guide while writing. We edited our stories with our partners and used TAG feedback to help each other reflect on our work and give encouragement on how the stories could be improved.

In our Cymraeg Bob Dydd lessons, we have been learning about activities we enjoy doing. We have focused on the question “Beth wyt ti’n wneud?”
The children have really enjoyed asking and answering questions, playing Welsh games, and reading Welsh books to further develop their knowledge and confidence.
We wrote the Welsh National Anthem in our best handwriting, taking care to form our letters neatly and accurately.

We discussed what Wales means to the children and talked about the symbols they think of when they think about Wales. The Year 3 children created a poem called “A Recipe for Wales”, and the Year 4 children wrote a poem called “A Pocketful of Wales”.

Our natural world is diverse and dynamic, influenced by processes and human actions.
The children had a discussion about ways to stay healthy. They shared ideas about eating nutritious food, exercising regularly, washing hands, getting enough sleep, and spending time outdoors. After the discussion, each child wrote down their own healthy habits.
To start our topic, we talked about what curiosity means and why it is important. Curiosity is when we want to ask questions and find out more about the world around us. The children then shared lots of questions about things they are interested in and want to learn more about. We have a very curious class!
The children worked together to put their questions into a slide presentation. Each week, we will choose a few questions to look at and talk about. This will help us learn new things, share ideas and keep being curious.
The children asked the question, “How do we breathe?” To explore this, we planned an investigation to show how our lungs work. The children followed the instructions carefully and made their own model lungs using a bottle and balloons. This helped them to see how air moves in and out of the lungs when we breathe.
We’ve had a great time investigating how boats floatand testing which materials were most effective.
There was lots of scientific vocabulary used and some great discussion and thinking.
We have been learning about light and how we see things in Dosbarth Coch. We have learnt that "dark" is the absence of light and we havebeen exploring how shadows are made!!
Here are some photos of us playing with light and making shadow with torches 🔦
We learned some Welsh folk dances in our dance lessons. The children enjoyed learning the new steps and practising the moves together.
For our Eisteddfod, we discussed what is important to us in our school. The children identified several key things, including the school buildings and our classroom. However, one feature that stood out most was the oak tree. We decided to draw the oak tree and then paint it using pointillism techniques that we have been learning over the past couple of weeks.
We started our music lessons by looking at the recorders and learning how to use them properly. We practised how to hold the recorder and how to blow gently to make a clear sound.
