Every Friday, we are fortunate to have music lessons with Mr. Evans, where we explore rhythm and rhyme through exciting activities. We learn to clap along to different beats, experiment with musical patterns, and even create our own rhythms. Through fun and engaging games, we develop our listening skills, coordination, and a deeper appreciation for music.
We have been exploring the South Pole and received a special letter asking for our help. As part of our investigation, we conducted an experiment to determine which substances melt ice the fastest and which ones melt it the slowest. We made predictions and wrote up our findings to send back to Penny the Penguin.
What do we know? We began by writing down our ideas on sticky notes and sharing them with the class.
How can we find out more? We used fact sheets, books, and the internet to research and deepen our understanding. Then, we added information to maps and recorded interesting facts on sticky notes to display our learning.
While learning about animals that hibernate, the children scanned QR codes and followed step-by-step instructions to draw them. They thoroughly enjoyed expressing their creativity.
As part of our topic "Is Winter Wonderful?", we explored the fascinating world of hibernating animals. Inspired by the beautiful pottery designs of Welsh artist Jodie Neale, who incorporates animal imagery into her work, we created our own unique pieces of art. Channeling her style, we carefully crafted our designs and proudly entered them into our Eisteddfod competition. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine our learning about nature with creative expression, celebrating both art and culture.
Stepping Back in Time at St Fagans National Museum
To kick off our exciting new topic, we took a trip to St Fagans National Museum and participated in an interactive toy workshop. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore how toys have changed over time. We examined a variety of traditional toys from the past, comparing their materials, designs, and functions to the toys we enjoy today.
Our learning didn’t stop there! As we wandered through the museum's historical buildings, we gained insight into how people lived long ago. From traditional Welsh cottages to Victorian-era homes, we explored the differences in daily life, including how people cooked, worked and entertained themselves without modern technology.
The experience sparked our curiosity and helped us appreciate the advancements in how we live and play. It was a memorable and educational day, setting the perfect foundation for our learning journey ahead!
We were lucky to have a special visit from Ben at Rock Steady! The children had a fantastic time learning about different musical instruments and singing along to lively tunes. Some even had the exciting opportunity to perform in their very own band "The Pink Penguins". Miss Griffiths and Mr Curnell joined in the fun too, trying their hand at the drums and guitar, it was a brilliant musical experience enjoyed by all!
We were delighted to welcome Welsh Heritage judge David Maddox, along with our school governors, to showcase our topic—'Creative Cariads: Bringing Welsh History to Life.' This initiative is part of an annual competition that celebrates heritage projects in schools, encouraging the development of cross-curricular skills through the exploration of Wales' rich history and culture.
