Handa's Surprise

Handa's Surprise served as our introduction to the topic at hand. The children and I talked about the story's major themes as well as the many fruits and vegetables that were included.

The children performed various parts of the story while sequencing the story cards in groups. Additionally, they developed several approaches to telling the story by utilising different foods - ice creams, chocolates, drinks etc.

The children enjoyed making story maps   of Handa's Surprise.

                                                                                                  Oliver's Vegetables

The children enjoyed listening to this story, they were able to retell the story remembering which days of the week certain vegetables were eaten.  Then the children asked their friends which vegetables they liked to eat.  They collected the data and made a bar chart to show their results.

    Fran's Flower

The children enjoyed the story of Fran's Flower.   They enjoyed discussing what they could feed their flowers.  This led to them finding out what plants need to grow.

Instruction Writing

The children wrote instructions on how to plant seeds for their friends to follow.  They used 'bossy' verbs.

We enjoyed lots of mini beast stories - The Lazy Ladybird and The Hungry Caterpillar.  The children practised counting with caterpillars.  They completed missing number trails of numbers up to 10, 20 and counting in 10's up to 100.
