How Does My Garden Grow?
Science Investigation
When we entered the classroom, we discovered some seeds, so we made the decision to incorporate art into a science investigation on the ideal conditions for plant growth. Children entered four gardens and made predictions about the ideal growing conditions for seeds: water and sun, water and no sun, sun and no water, or no water and no sun.
Planting
We went to the nature area and planted our own vegetables—onion, beans, and carrots—as well as some flowers after learning about what is needed for plants to grow well.

Tadpoles
One of the pupils brought tadpoles into school. We took the tadpoles to the school pond and released them. We then found out about the lifecycle of tadpoles and frogs.

Fruit Tasting
Following on from the story Handa's Surprise the pupils decided they wanted to taste new fruits. We tasted Mango, Pineappple, Kiwi, Passion Fruit and Oranges. The pupils enjoyed some of the fruits.
Creative
Finding a drawing or photograph of their preferred flower was part of the children's homework. They drew a flower after that, which we displayed in our classroom.
Georgia O'Keeffe
The children have been researching Georgia O'Keeffe's art. They first drew her flowers after doing research on her facts. They put a lot of effort into applying details.
