When we talk of the six perfections---
generosity, ethical discipline, patience,
perseverance, concentration and
wisdom--- they can also be found in
other, non-bodhisattva practitioners
who are working more towards their
own individual liberation. What makes
the practice of these six factors
perfect is the motivation involved.
In order for one’s practice
of patience to be a practice
of the perfection of patience,
you need the motivation which is
bodhicitta. If your practice is
motivated by bodhicitta--- the
aspiration to attain enlightenment
for the benefit of all---
then your practice becomes
truly a practice of perfection.
當我們談六波羅蜜–
慷慨, 道德的紀律, 耐性, 毅力, 專注和智慧,
(布施, 持戒, 忍辱, 精進, 禪定, 智慧)
這些特質也能在那些
為了自己個人的解脫,
而不是修行菩薩道的人身上發現.
要能讓這六個修習要素完美,
就在於修習的動機.
要能讓耐性 (忍辱) 的修習
成為忍辱的波羅蜜,
就要以菩提心為動機.
如果你的動機出自菩提心–
以得到覺悟為萬物求福祉為志,
此時, 你就真的修向完美之境.
