Peace is of little value to someone who
is dying of hunger or cold. It will not
remove the pain or torture inflicted on a
prisoner of conscience. It does not
comfort those who have lost their loved
ones in floods caused by senseless
deforestation in a neighbouring
country. Peace can only last where
human rights are respected, where the
people are fed, and where individuals
and nations are free. True peace with
ourselves and with the world around us
can only be achieved through the
development of mental peace.
對處於饑寒交迫的人來說和平沒啥價值.
和平也不能為一個良心的囚犯卸下痛苦與折磨.
它更不能讓那些因為鄰國無知的濫墾濫伐
而在洪水中喪失所愛的倖存者得到慰藉.
和平只能在那些尊重人權的地方持久,

對於我們自己以及周遭世界的真正和平
只能經由發展心靈的平靜來達成.
