Overall I have found much that is

impressive about Western society. In

particular, I admire its energy and

creativity and hunger for knowledge.

On the other hand, a number of things

about the Western way of life cause me

concern. People there have an

inclination to think in terms of ‘black

and white’ and ‘either, or’,

which ignores the facts of

interdependence and relativity.

Between two points of view they tend to

lose sight of grey areas. Also, with

thousands of brothers and sisters for

neighbours, so many people appear to

be able to show their true feelings only

to their cats and dogs.

整體來說, 我發現西方社會中有許多事情讓我欽佩.

特別是, 我讚嘆它的活力, 創造力, 和求知慾.

另一方面, 西方的生活方式中, 有幾件事讓我掛慮.

西方人對事情的判斷有著 ‘黑白分明’

及 ‘不是這樣, 就是那樣’ 的傾向,

忽略了事物相生相惜及相對性的事實.

在兩個觀點間, 他們看不到中間的灰色地帶.

此外, 在成千上百的兄弟姊妹鄰居之間,

許多人似乎只能對他們的貓狗寵物吐露心聲.
