Spicy Blackberry Jam

Ingredients

5 cups Blackberries

7 cups sugar

1- (1 3/4 ounce) package dry pectin

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions

Mix the sugar, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg in a bowl and set aside.

Wash the berries, then crush them with a potato masher.

Pour the berries and the juice in a very large stew pot over high heat. Stir the berries constantly.

Add the pectin to the berries a little at a time stirring constantly, until the berries reach a full boil.

Add the sugar and spice mix stirring constantly, so the berries don't scorch. Bring the mixture back to a full boil and boil for 1 minute.

Remove the mix from the heat and ladle into hot sterilized jars. Be sure and leave a little room at the top of the jar, then seal with the canning lid and ring.

Process the filled jars in a water bath for 10 minutes.

Remove to a cooling area and do not disturb for at least 24 hours.

Store in a cool dry place until opening.
