Grandma's Cherry Cobbler

Ingredients

Filling

4 cups fresh Tart Cherries pits removed

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon allspice

4 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Biscuits

1 cup all purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup cold butter

1 egg

1/4 to 1/3 cup of milk

Topping

3 teaspoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

Filling

Mix the cornstarch with 1/4 cup water, stir to dissolve and set aside.

In a large saucepan add the cherries, sugar, cinnamon, allspice and vanilla. Mix well and bring to a slow boil, stirring constantly. If you don't have enough liquid from the cherries, then add 1/4 cup water.

Stir in the cornstarch mixture and lower the heat continuing to stir. The mixture will thicken and when it begins to thicken remove from heat. and set aside.

Biscuits

Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Cut in the butter until the mixture looks like tiny peas.

Beat the egg then add the milk.

Add the egg and milk mixture to the flour mixture and mix together.

This will be a wet dough.

Pour the filling into a 9X13 baking dish.

Drop the biscuits on top of the filling.

Mix the sugar and cinnamon for the topping and sprinkle over the top of the cobbler.

Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes until the slightly browned on top.
