Retro Chicken Fried Steak & Gravy

Ingredients

The Steak

2 large round steaks, cut in half and trimmed

2 cups flour (of your choice)

1 cup yellow cornmeal

2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

dash Cayenne Pepper (optional)

2 cups Buttermilk

1 cup Vegetable Oil

Directions

Place the steak into a plastic bag and pound the steak until tenderized.

Mix the flour, cornmeal,1 teaspoon garlic powder,1 teaspoon salt,1 teaspoon pepper then pour in a flat dish.

Pour the buttermilk, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon pepper into a medium size bowl and mix well.

Dip the steak into the seasoned flour and cornmeal mixture.

Next dip the steak into the Buttermilk.

Next dip the steak back into the flour and cornmeal mixture.

Heat the oil until it is very hot in a deep frying pan, add a few Steak 2 or 3 at a time and cook on both side's until golden brown.

The steak cooks fast if your oil is hot enough, be careful not to overload your skillet or it won't cook right.

Take the steak out of the skillet when done and drain on a paper towel for a few minutes before serving. Reserve 1/4 cup of the steak grease for the gravy.

Cream Gravy:

1/4 cup of the steak grease

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

3 to 4 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

Directions

In a mixing jar, pour the flour, salt, pepper and milk. Place the lid on the jar and shake until the flour is disolved.

Heat the oil in the skillet where you cooked the steak then pour the milk and flour mixture into the hot oil and stir.

Stir the gravy mixture until it is thick and creamy,if to thick, thin with more milk.
