Pop-Gun Plot

Pop-Gun Plot was an incident in 1794 in which informants notified the authorities that an attempt on King George III’s life would be made while he was in attendance at the theatre by means of a poisoned dart in a pop-gun. The Privy Council questioned a number of individuals in September and October 1794 about the allegations, with accusations primarily levelled at members of the London Corresponding Society (of which a number of its leaders were currently under arrest and soon to be tried) and the Constitutional Society.
