Second Ave. (3315–21). Karaoke at Duke’s, cont’d, which ended and will henceforth end 01:00 rather than 02:00. Photos by Jon. M.

Q with J. and Ken. K. J. was apologizing in Times Sq. sta. 7 with J.

37th Ave. (3322–23). I took a look around DR with Kl’d too busy to notice me, I decided on a purchase, and then I went home to fetch my reusable shopping bag. When I returned, Kl’d (504) made sure I noticed he was greeting me. I brought my blueberry‐flavored and dark chocolate‐flavored almonds to the checkout line (and accidentally turned on my camera in my pocket), and K. was smiling at and being friendly with me even as I was approaching the register. When my items did not come up at the expected discount, he and I walked to the shelf together and after a moment of being baffled, he noticed that the sale had ended a week before. He went to ask the black manager if I could get them at the sale price anyway and then told me he’d agreed. After all that, K. neglected to give me my change. When I pointed it out, he gave me the four dollars and apologized, telling me it was his very first night on the overnight shift. He was so friendly to me I should visit in the upcoming days to ask how he’s getting on.

When I got home, I realized the almonds were coated with sugar, a fact that didn’t prevent my eating them.

74th St. (3324–26).

34th Ave. (3327–41). Jogger (3329). Man with bags entering a red car (3330–33). Blurry dogs (3341).

Not captured: the three lads chatting on a corner, one of whom comically overreacted to something said by spinning around, pulling off his oversized winter hat with its pom pom and exaggeratedly throwing it on the asphalt in mock anger; the awful black letter carrier who threw her chewing gum into a tree bed as she was exiting a building and, thanks to her headphones, didn’t hear my calling her a litterbug; the man with the chicken hat; the man who put his baby’s dropped red hat on his own head to make him or her laugh; the boys in front of IS 230 who were, although admittedly loudly and annoyingly despite the nice sentiment, wishing everyone they encountered a nice day or nice life.

37th Ave. Saw S— through the DR window. Salame cotto, cheese ends, strawberries and cottage cheese from FD. Entered the full सागर/সাগর to take away a takeaway menu.
