2015 December 10

Saw Sammy M. at the supermarket while he was on the checkout line and walking out the door. Photo of the deli‐counter sign noting the hours, with a convenient clock in the background.

Having seen a sign in the window as I entered that said butter was on sale but not being able to find mention of it in the circular on on the little signs at the shelves’ edges, I approached the information desk only to be told by the young woman thereat that it was closed. I asked whom I could ask, and while she looked around for someone whereto to direct me, she made circular motions in the air with her hand. I exaggerated them into a lariat‐like motion along with a mildly undulating torso and a smile, and Carlos saw it as he was approaching and smiled too. He was very friendly and told me the signs were for next week’s sale and had been posted early.

I made sure to arrive while the deli counter was open and got a pound each of spicy chicken and spicy turkey as well as half of a pound of smoked salmon. They have a big restocking problem, so I still could not find the sliced liverwurst, the store brand of sauerkraut, and any brand at all of solid light tuna in water; I snagged the last container of hard‐cooked eggs, so I suspect I won’t see any again for quite a while now.
