I dreamed I was placing a live cat in a microwave oven! I was in an apartment unfamiliar to me since awakening but was contextually mine at times and not mine at others. I was preparing a meal and placed a plate of food in the microwave oven that included a bowl with a very small yellow cat in it that was looking at me sadly. At the last minute, I realized what I was doing and thought how it would clearly kill the cat and that the cat’s owner(s) would be very disappointed. I apparently intended to eat the cat but had to remind myself that eating an animal means that it dies at some point. The cat meal was quite low in carbohydrate but all I could find as its alternative was pizza (both fresh and microwavable) in the refrigerator, so I put that in the microwave oven instead. There was also a large bag of “circus peanuts” and other candies of that same substance on which I began to snack and noted the oddness of having savory and intensely sweet things in my mouth together. There was a biopic about Bea Arthur on television, and I suddenly remembered having seen portions of it on and off that evening and that a main character was named Bea without my having realized it was Bea Arthur. At the point at which I tuned in again, Bea was in a dressing room with two cross old ladies griping at her. My impression is that the movie was at this point depicting an early Golden Girls rehearsal, and one of the old ladies was portraying an uncharacteristically dour Estelle Getty and the other a rude actress who was eventually let go before the series premiered.
The true Food Dynasty sign is up, and all Global Supermarket signs on the exterior are gone. Meghna is one big store now having absorbed Black Wireless. Street vendor at 82nd Street and 37th Avenue wore plastic bags over his shoes when I passed him in both directions.
{I expect to be told, based on CT scan results, whether my oral surgery is imminent.}
I witnessed an arrest at Elmhurst Hospital Center.
While I was waiting near the managed care desk, a group of three or so police officers were escorting a man in handcuffs past me. After they had walked quite a bit beyond me, one of the officers said something to two of the others and gestured, and those two officers unhurriedly returned to the spot where I was sitting and informed another, probably Latin American, man that he was under arrest. The man calmly put his hands against the wall which were later brought behind his back, and he too was handcuffed and led away.
I fairly often encounter prisoners and arrestees at the hospital in police custody.
At first, there was a bit of a lack of continuity of care as an unfamiliar doctor entered the examination room and asked me “What can I do for you?” She did not really seem to know what was going on with my case or what to do about it, including informing me that the tumor would need to be removed as if I didn’t know. Later, my usual surgeon and a bunch of others were in the room, and it seems I’ll be having the operation early next year. I also may have been flirting with the Korean medical student who was observing. {…}
