Went to میزبان with Jeff O. for lunch at their all‐you‐can‐eat buffet. There was not a cloud in the sky and he thought it odd I arrived carrying an umbrella. There was only one vegetable dish and it was a high‐carbohydrate mixture with potato and peas; all the others were meat, rice or noodle dishes, so I had to focus on the meat. As I was stepping away from the buffet to return to the table, two women workers came out from behind the counter to greet me, and the one in front told me through her big smile that I looked very nice. The curry sauce was quite good, but the rest of the food was just satisfactory and unremarkable. As if to vindicate my bringing the umbrella, clouds rolled in, the sky opened up and we had a fierce downpour that I documented in video. Our bill was twenty‐something dollars but we were victims of the automated teller machines and only had twenty‐dollar bills and so had to submit forty dollars. We were of course expecting quite a lot of change but they returned the check‐presenter book with only about six bucks in it. Obviously, we had to alert them and they then returned the book with the correct amount of change without argument. Due to the rain, we stayed much longer after paying the bill than we’d intended. By the time we left, however, I no longer needed the umbrella and walked home without having used it.
