• I have been palling around with an openly gay participant in NYU’s Paths to Peace program. He’s fascinating: He’s Palestinian and has a Jewish‐Israeli boyfriend with whom he lives in a settlement in East Jerusalem. (00:58)
Commentary
:: Religiously fanatic {Fanatically religious} students wouldn’t apply to be in the program. Any participant probably already at least supports Israeli/Palestinian dialogue and the peace process. (01:23)
:: The program itself may not change the world, but it’s hardly irrelevant. They have workshops and learn a lot from each other, stuff they can bring back to their communities. Due to the uneven numbers {of} men and women in the program, my friend is rooming with another Muslim Palestinian when they would normally place him with an Israeli. In the few months they have lived together, his roommate stopped praying, became more pro‐gay and wants to experiment with dyeing his hair. Hopefully, he would be more likely to defend gays and Jews after he returns home thanks to his US experiences. (01:30)
:: They’re dyeing their hair together, not screwing one another. (01:40)
:: Oh yeah, I forgot about Sodomite hair dye. (01:46)
:: God was mostly concerned with inhospitality and hair dye. Anyone who knows the mind of God would know that. (01:49)
:: That sounds likely to break down due to its highly confrontational nature. Sworn enemies might clam up instead of opening up. (03:10)
