Thomas A. Cusack was born at Waterford on June 3, 1921, and served his time with Senator J. J. Parkinson. He rode his first winner, Noel, at The Curragh, aged 16.

Standing 5ft 9ins, Tommy was a quiet, unassuming jockey who came to England to ride for Steve Donoghue. He rode a good number of winners before increasing weight forced him to switch to jump racing. His first NH winner was Indian Curry.

Tom took a bad fall from Desert Prince at Birmingham on December 18, 1956. This ended his career.

Tom's greatest victory came on Four Ten in the 1954 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
