Harry Armytage

Captain Harry Armytage, who lived at The Grange, North Berwick, died on Sunday, November 11, 1934.

Well known in the 1880s as a gentleman rider, he rode his own horse, Red Hussar, in the 1885 Grand National and was first to clear the water jump.

When not riding, Harry could be found playing golf, painting or inventing some novelty. (He once devised a waistcoat which could be converted into a life jacket.)

Harry was also the owner of Tame Vixen, which won the Sandown Cup.

An artist of ability, he once exhibited at the Royal Academy.
