Charles Cunningham

c1850 - 1924

National Hunt jockey Charles Cunningham – not to be confused with the leading amateur of the same name who rode a few years earlier – was born at Malton circa 1850, the son of Grand National-winning jockey Tommy Cunningham. He rode in the Grand National just once but was unable to emulate his father’s success, failing to finish on the mare Geraldine in 1871.

He later trained successfully in France.

He died at Beverley on August 20, 1924, aged 74, leaving £2,412.
