David Joseph Bohan rode over jumps in the first half of the 1990s and had five wins. A conditional jockey with Jenny Pitman, he had his first success at Ascot on October 21, 1992, when six-year-old Belafonte took the lead at the second last flight and had two and a half lengths to spare at the end of the Valley Gardens Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle. 

Belafonte was trained by Pat Muphy, who also supplied David with a second winner before the season ended when Cassiene landed the Future Chasers Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow on March 20, again by two and a half lengths.

There was then a gap of over ten months before win number three was achieved, that coming at Warwick on February 8, 1993, when Shannon Glen proved too strong for Leavenworth on the run-in to take the Globe Handicap Hurdle by three lengths. 

Twenty days later the same partnership had an easier victory in the Coomes Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton as the eight-year-old beat Damier Blanc by ten lengths. 

Mrs Pitman trained Shannon Glen and she also provided David with his final victory when Smith Too hit the front on the run-in and landed the Henley Hall Gold Challenge Cup Handicap Hurdle at Ludlow on March 3 by three lengths. Two further starts on Smith Too yielded two third places but there were no more wins.

David should have ridden a sixth winner on Aldington Chapple at Uttoxeter in September 1994, but failed to turn up at the course.  Claimer Pat McLoughlin stepped in at the last moment.
