John Brent Adamson rode over jumps in the first half of the 1980s and had two wins, both in the 1981/1982 season.
His first ride in public was on Young Sagert, finishing unplaced in the Moorhen Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1) at Newcastle on January 27, 1982. He kept the ride for the nine-year-old’s next start before the far more experienced Chris Pimlott took over in the saddle.
However, when Young Sagert ventured over fences at Sedgefield on March 8 that year, Brent was back in the saddle, the pair finishing second, beaten eight lengths by David Goulding on Mister Moonshine.
Just ten days later they went one better when taking the lead at the final fence and winning the Plover Hill Novices’ Chase at Sedgefield by two lengths. Alastair Charlton owned and trained Young Sagert, and following an unplaced effort at Hexham Brent was able to win on him for a second time when the gelding had a length and a half to spare at the end of the Moorhouse Novices’ Chase at Carlisle on Easter Monday, April 12.
He was unseated on their next start at Hexham on May 8 when holding every chance, after which Graham Bradley took over, winning twice before the season ended.
Brent had few opportunities after that Hexham spill, his final ride coming when finishing fourth on Trevello in the Grunwick National Hunt Flat Race back at Hexham on September 10, 1984.
