On Monday, March 26, 1894, jockey Alfred Alleney was killed at Amersham races.
In the second event, two horses, after refusing to jump, turned round to attempt the hurdle again. In doing so, they cannoned, with the result that the horses and riders all crashed to the ground.
Alfred Alleney, riding the horse owned by Mr Sratham, died within minutes.
