Timothy Austin was born on May 19, 1956 and rode two winners over jumps, five years apart.
His first victory came at Windsor on March 7, 1977, when Stanaure, owned and trained by Tony Richards, proved far too good for 14 rivals in the Thomas Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1), coming home 15 lengths clear of Rullahman. Tim had been aboard all five of the colt’s previous starts and had been placed three times, so was not winning out of turn.
Stanaure did not run again until the following December and Tim did not visit the winner’s enclosure again until the meeting at Ludlow on May 3, 1982, when French Polly just held on to beat Desert Hero by a neck in the church Stretton Handicap Hurdle. Owned and trained by David Charles Tucker at Frome in Somerset, the six-year-old had already scored that season at Wincanton under Willie Newton, who then took over in the saddle again.
Tim had few more opportunities, his final ride being at Plumpton on November 22, 1983, when Tudor Squire was pulled up in the Ron Bolton Novices’ Chase.
Tim's first winner, Stanaure, came at Windsor March 7 1977
