Henry Bradley

1805 - 1861

Londoner Henry Bradley twice rode the winner of the Liverpool Champion Hurdle, 1843 & 1844.

In the latter race, three of the six runners had already ran that day, all having competed in the Grand National run earlier!

By 1851, Henry had turned to training. We know from the census of that time that he sent runners out from Down Cottage, Church Street, and that he had a staff of eight, including two jockeys from Ireland.

He was Private Trainer to Count Batthyany, with whom he stayed for 33 years.

One of Henry's better training achievements was his success with Tragical in the 1847 Royal Hunt Cup.
