1943 - 2020
Robert Henry Alner was born at Blandford in Dorset on November 21, 1943 and, as an amateur, rode 50 winners.
His best win came on Domason in the 1970 National Hunt Chase.
Robert then successfully turned his hand to training, and he won the 1998 Cheltenham Gold Cup with Cool Dawn.
On November 8, 2007, he broke his neck in a car crash and immediately retired from racing.
He died on February 3, 2020, aged 76.
