Andrew Barclay

1923 - 2002

Born on January 3, 1923. Andrew Tannock Barclay was a professional NH jockey who served his apprenticeship with his father, Hugh Barclay.

He took out a trainer's licence in 1953 and sent out the winners of the Lanark Silver Bell (twice), Northumberland Plate & the Gosforth Park Cup.

He married Joan Allison on January 19, 1952. She gave him a daughter, Diana, and a son, Paul.

Rode with success as a NH jockey in the 40s & 50s.

Was the uncle of Sandy Barclay and second youngest of the four sons of legendary Scottish horseman and trainer Hugh Barclay

He trained from 1960-1984 at Beckfoot, Annan, Dumfries

Trained Cannebiere to win 1957 Cumberland Plate.

Andrew died, from cancer, on Friday, June 28, 2002.
