Although granted a licence for the 1946/47 season, it was not until December 17, 1948 that Edward Terrance Cook rode his only winner, when his mount Western Slipper, trained by Ron Smyth, beat 21 rivals to take the New Chapel Selling Handicap Hurdle (Division 1) at Lingfield Park by five lengths.

It was the five-year-old’s fourth run of the season, with Edward having been aboard for all three of his previous, disappointing, efforts. He only had 11 rides all that season, managing one third-place finish in addition to that Lingfield victory.

Western Slipper did not run again for 18 months and did not resume winning ways for almost three years, by which time Edward Cook was no longer a jockey, having not renewed his licence after the 1950/51 season.
