Isaac Cape was born in 1720 at Middleton Tyas, near Catterick, Yorkshire, and became a jockey as a very young man. His main employer was John Hutton of Marske; he was also much used by Mr Mann of Boroughbridge.
He later became a celebrated trainer at Tupgill, near Middleham (stables of which he later became owner). Among his patrons were Sir Charles Turner, Sir Rowland Winn and Sir John L. Kaye.
Jockeys he used regularly included George Searle, Charles Dawson, Thomas Thompson and John Mangle.
Isaac died, aged 78, on 30 November, 1798, and interred in Coverham churchyard.
