On October 20, 1934, amateur steeplechase jockey Roger Corbett was killed when driving from Tewkesbury to Cheltenham.
Approaching Uckington and travelling between 60 & 70 miles an hour, Roger was rounding a bend in his sports car when a tyre burst, causing him to lose control and crash into another car, driven by Mr Peter Hing, a Birmingham architect.
The sports car skidded to a halt, throwing Roger face down into a ditch.
Roger Corbett lived at Manor House, Ogbourne, Wilts.
