The son of Ayr trainer James Burns, James Jr. died on Wednesday, March 7, 1928, in Tarporley Cottage Hospital, Cheshire, from injuries received when his motorbike collided with a car the previous Sunday. His wife, riding on the pillion and who suffered a fractured collar-bone and arm, survived.
James was crossing the Fishpool corner on the Winsford-Chester main road in Delamere Forest when he came into contact with a car being driven by Mr Charles Miller.
He was employed at Mr Bickley's Training Centre at Tarporley, and lived at Mount Pleasant, Liverpool.
