Eric Brown

Eric Charles Brown took out a professional National Hunt jockey’s licence in 1926 and rode for more than 20 years.

He rode in eight Grand Nationals, completing the course three times, finishing sixth on Apostasy in 1934, sixth again on Provocative in 1936, and eleventh on Luxborough in 1940.

He enjoyed plenty of success in other races over the Grand National course, winning the 1934 Grand Sefton Chase on Prince Madoc and consecutive renewals of the Stanley Steeplechase on Second Act in 1936 and Bondsman in 1937.

Numerically, his best season was in 1935/36.

He turned to training after the war, based at Liddington, near Swindon. He later became the licensee of the Mason’s Arms at Aldbourne.
