Peter Corrigan

Peter Patrick Corrigan, nicknamed ‘Murph’, was born in Belfast on June 27, 1961. He started working life in a dog food factory in Northern Ireland.

He moved to Britain and became apprenticed to Richard Hannon. He then joined Basil Richmond at Wellingore, Lincolnshire, who provided him with his first winner, selling hurdler Little Tyrant at Windsor on February 3, 1982. Peter was associated with Richmond’s stable for ten years.

He gained easily his biggest victory as a 7lb claimer on the Peter Haynes-trained Dalbury in the 1984 Imperial Cup at Sandown. That was one of seven winners he rode that season, and he again registered a score of seven the following season.

Unfortunately, that big race success failed to act as a launching pad for Peter’s career. He retired aged 30 due to lack of rides and became a construction worker.
