John Corr, born on February 3, 1952, spent two years with Seamus McGrath and three years with Jack Ormston as he served his apprenticeship. He was then retained by Mick O'Toole.
He rode his first winner in Britain on the 12-year-old Le Garcon d'Or in the Bass Charrington Handicap at Beverley on May 2 1970. His second winner came on The Cow Drink at Carlisle on May 21 1970. His third winner came in the very next race, on Red Solitaire.
John scored a notable victory on board Pampapaul for trainer Stuart Murless in the 1976 Vincent O'Brien Stakes, and also won the Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Handicap on Manfilia.Â
His best season was 1971 with 17 winners.
He spent the winter of 1972-73 in Kenya where he rode eight winners.
John had a variety of hobbies, including golf, deep-sea fishing, underwater swimming, cordon bleu cooking and snooker.
