Maurice John Ahern, born on April 16, 1967, began riding in the mid-eighties: trainers who were happy to use him included John Jenkins and J Parish for whom he won on Rising Sovereign at Market Rasen on October 17, 1986.
He then joined Paul Eccles' Upshire Farm Racing Stables combining jockey duties with those of Assistant Trainer. The stable's retained jockey was Adrian Maguire.
