Martin Berry

Martin Berry was born on 7 August 1972 and rode as a conditional jockey for Charlie Brooks, who trained at Uplands Stables in Lambourn.

He rode his first winner on Le Ginno in the Levy Board National Hunt Flat Race at Uttoxeter on Easter Monday, 12 April 1993.

In a three-year period, he rode 15 winners from 125 mounts. The best horses he rode were Sound Reveille and Forest Sun.

He rode Grand Annual Chase winner Sound Reveille three times, the first occasion being when finishing unplaced in a Haydock bumper on March 3, 1993. Four years later, Martin was reunited with Sound Reveille, finishing fifth on him at Haydock in January 1997, but then being unseated four fences from home at Chepstow the following month.

He rode the talented Forest Sun just once, when finishing third in a conditional jockeys’ chase at Cheltenham on 9 December 1994, a race won by a young up-and-coming rider named Anthony McCoy.
