Frederic Crouch

Frederic was born (in approximately 1819) at Six Mile Bottom, Newmarket.

The 1851 census shows us that in that year he was living at Epsom.

He rode in five Derbies:

1843:  Murton Lordship

1845:  John Davis

1846:  Tragical (Royal Hunt Cup winner)

1847:  Binnacle

1850:  Valentine

After hanging up his saddle, he turned to training, taking stables at Epsom. He then went to work for the Earl of Strathmore at Mitchell Grove. Frederic also rode for Count Batthyany (owner of Tragical) and the Earl of Warwick.  He rode on the continent from 1855 to 1862.

Towards the end of his racing days, he worked in racing stables at Berkshire and Staffordshire before finally retiring to settle in Essex.
