John Childs

1859 - 1904 

John Childs was born in Bishops Sutton and was apprenticed to Arthur Yates.

He rode his first winner, Jupiter, at Kingsbury, 1878.

(He was not the father of the famous three jockeys.)

Joe enjoyed his biggest wins on Albert Cecil (1883 Grand International Steeplechase) and Cortolvin who, in 1885, won both the Cheltenham Grand Annual & the Prince of Wales's Chase.

He died on August 18, 1904, aged 44.
