Aaron Bates

Aaron Alan Bates rode his first winner, Shannon Express, at Ripon on September 1, 1990.

Ex-jockey Ian Wardle worked as his agent.

Living at 2, Brockhampton Road, Lambourn, Aaron found rides hard to come by though his average – 8 winners from 40 mounts – was quite decent.

He switched codes and became attached to Seamus Mullins' yard.

Aaron spent seven weeks in plaster with a broken ankle following a last hurdle fall from 33-1 outsider Daytona Beach

Eventually he retrained courtesy of the Injured Jockeys Fund. He took both computer and business training, before opening his own enterprise as a landscaper.
