Jamie John Brown won three races over jumps in the early 1990s. He had the good fortune to be a conditional with former champion jockey and leading trainer Josh Gifford and had his first victory at Fontwell Park on October 27, 1993, when Fitness Fanatic took the lead at halfway and came home seven lengths clear of Ruth’s Gamble at the end of the Willis Corroon Selling Handicap Hurdle. 


He had his second success was also gained at Fontwell when City Kid led from the fifth fence and landed the Selsey Handicap Chase by 15 lengths on January 17, 1994.


Jamie had to work harder for his third and final victory, but Counterbalance beat three rivals to take the Shirley Novices’ Chase at Warwick on November 15, 1994 by three lengths. He was riding the seven-year-old for the first time. They failed to finish in two subsequent starts that season.
